How to create a Gold plated Typography by Tokunboh Opeyemi

In this Photoshop tutorial, I will show you step-by-step creation of this Gold-like typo plated effect in Photoshop. This is a beginner-level tutorial and I will show how easy it is to create a great looking typo effect in Photoshop using few steps. Let’s play!

Note: The tutorial is created in version CS6 – therefore some screengrabs may have slighting different layout as in the earlier version.


Step 1


Create a new document sized 2560px * 1600px with other values and specs same as the image below:

We need to use the gradient tool to fill background layer with the radial gradient and colour shown below:

Step 2:

Now, we need to draw a Gold-Bar using rounded rectangle shape, choose from the shape options or Press U on the keyboard to activate the shape tool:

Set your foreground colour to the value below:

Change your radius value to 30px and draw the shape in similar size on the canvas:

Step 3:

Apply the following Layer Styles to the Shape,

Right-click on the Rectangle Layer and click on blending options:

Step 4:

We are at the checkpoint of this tutorial,

Next, Type a letter using any font of your choice, but I recommend BEBAS for this tutorial:

Position the text inside the gold bar and change the text color to #5A3B10 and change the Blend Mode to Multiply

Next Apply the following Layer Styles to the text, Bevel & Emboss and enter the values and color codes

Apply Inner Shadow

Now, draw a rectangle shape, add the color code #FFD014 and rotate to the direction similar to the screengrab below:

Next, Duplicate the Rectangle from the layer panel, change the opacity of Rectangle 1 copy to 10% and rectangle 1 to 40% and rearrange
the layers similar to the screengrab below:

Finally, we need to mask the rectangles inside the Gold bar and text layers
Right click on each of the rectangle layer and click on Creat Clipping Mask, Then move the layers into a Group, select the layers and Press CTRL + G on the keyboard
