Millipede is an arthropod that belong to the class Diplopoda with two pairs of legs on most body segments. Diplopoda is a Greek word meaning double.
They feed on mosses and primitive vascular plant. They are detritivores and feed on decomposing vegetation, faeces or organic matter mixed with soil. A few of them interestingly are omnivorous or occasionally carnivorous feeding on insects, centipedes, earthworm or snails.
Due to their lack of speed and inability to bite or sting, the only way they defend themself is to curl into a tight coil, protecting their delicate lets on armoured body exterior.
