Hello everyone, today’s tutorial is centered on How to create a Silhouette Art in Adobe Photoshop. We will be using the photo of an amazing actor and entertainer Russel Brand. Russel Brand is an English Comedian, Actor, Radio host and Author.

Step 1:

We got Russel’s photo courtesy Google. Open up the photo in Photoshop.

Step 2:

Now because you open the image directly from your folder, it is locked, to unlock the image, double-click on the Image Layer on the Layer Palette.

A New Layer Dialog box will appear, and you can even rename your Layer by changing the name on the dialog box. Click OK after you have fulfill every righteousness.

After doing the above, you will discover that the lock icon has gone and you have been able to achieve a silhouette of the photo as shown below:

Step 3

Pick your Magic Wand Tool (W), click on the white portion on the photo, right click and select ‘similar’. This means that all the white space will be selected

After selecting the white portions, right-click on the photo again and select Layer via cut to separate the white portion from the silhouette.

Step 4

Change the colour of the white portion by selecting Color Overlay from the Layer Style Box

Change it to golden yellow as shown below:

The issue after you have change the white portion to white is that, the silhouette (black) have some white patches around it if you zoom it closely which is not looking too good.

What you will then do is to create another Layer with a solid black background and place the layer below all the other layers to help cover up all the white patches around the black silhouette.

Finally, your Silhouette Art should look like what is shown above. Get hold of a preferred image, and practice. Remember you can be a better designer if only you can keep on practicing your art.
